Despite that, 380,000 rapes are attempted every year, and 240,000 attempted rapes were completed

85,000 rapes were reported to the police, or a year, 236 rapes a day, were reported to the police.

In sum, far more rapes are prevented by the possible or demonstrated presence of a gun than are competed. “Forcible sexual assault” is a terrible crime, and often leaves victims emotionally crippled for life.

The completion rate against armed victims is less than one percent, while attempts at physical resistance have a completion rate in excess of 70 percent.

As usual, it becomes a case of “take precautions or suffer the consequences.” For safety, one of the most effective precautions, short of locking yourself in a bank vault, is to carry a concealed weapon that you know how to use."
