Calgary and Alberta - we have a situation on our hands whereby our Electricity and Gas companies are adding a "rate rider" program to all customers to pay back the bad debt created by the Utility Payment Deferral Program back in March of 2020.
Essentially, this means that people who have been paying our energy bills are now responsible for paying back the money of people who couldn't pay and repay their bills that they deferred.
I am a business woman. Can you imagine what would happen if one of my clients didn't pay and I made all my other clients chip in to cover the lost revenue? This doesn't make sense and if I put that kind of term into my Contract, I wouldn't have any clients.
A giant corporation who has a monopoly over our energy industry should not have the power to gauge its customers like this for a financial burden that we didn't create and had no say in.
Join me in contacting your MLA, the Premier, as well as the AUC and the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We need to put a stop to this as who knows where else they will bill Albertans for the debt created by the endless lockdowns.
