Starting today, depending on where you follow me online, this year's Food in Scripture quotes will either follow last year's order going from Genesis to Revelation in rough order to the books of the Bible, or they will appear in Alphabetical order instead. Not every platform makes it easy to re-use what was shared before. Friendevu doesn't seem to have useful albums, but seems fast enough to scroll to the bottom of the current list of images. I began sharing here part way through my verses after the book of Genesis, so I'll begin there, then will continue on with what was previously shared last year. Sometimes I will add to explanation that was shared before, other times I will leave it as is.
As mentioned before, I only have a grand total of 56 examples of food and food-in-healing Scripture references. If there was a passage or verse you'd hoped to see last year but didn't, feel free to request it, because I didn't include EVERY reference to food found in Scripture, just examples from what God wrote. I'll be sharing one per week this year, unlike two per week last year (I'd started in Spring last year, so it worked to often do two a week).
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Genesis 1:29-30
In the passage for today, we see the word "meat" being used in the generic term for food. When God created everything, and before sin entered the world, all life was essentially vegan. The purpose of plants and trees was to feed the human, animal, bird, and ocean life. After sin entered the world, the ability of plants to be the sole source of nutrition broke down, and after the Great Flood, God explicitly gave animals for food alongside plants, to Noah and his descendants (that's us). It is possible that after God restores everything to it's original design after He creates the new Heaven and the new Earth, that we may revert back to being vegan. For now however, such a food lifestyle should be reserved for those whose bodies are unable to produce the enzymes necessary to process animal foods.
