So April 6th was our first spring foraging run. We came back with a bit of yarrow, but not without gathering a full cloth grocery bag of fallen, still-green, fir sprigs!

Then we spotted a Ponderosa pine with very loose bark layers. These layers are what I've been experimenting with as a cinnamon-like spice. Looking around at the base of a few pine trees reveals that the trees shed this layer regardless. We can either let it go to waste and become forest fire fuel, or we can do our part in reducing fuel for forest fires while also reducing our need to buy imported goods from overseas.

Discovering that Lamb's Quarters are a spinach substitute whether raw or cooked, is another ingredient that doesn't need to be trucked the last mile if it is found growing nearby, or only the price of the gas spent to go get it, which for us, is equal to the cost of gas running to the store. Of course, the fewer runs to the store, the less gas spent. Money saved all around.

Maybe this week I'll get around to trying out powdered pine bark in place of cinnamon in a cinnamon roll recipe. If it works, I'll share the recipe and call them pine rolls instead.

So anyone who knows me for any length of time, eventually hears me grouse about the incredible food waste I see occurring every October. This is an incredible pet peave of mine that I’ve had for many years, and it gets my goat every single fall season! The pumpkin everyone loves to carve up, smash and either throw to the chickens or toss in the garbage, is food for us humans as well, in a great many ways.

However, after today’s efforts pulling together research papers for the modern day entry on the pumpkin, I’ve now been educated that even the flower and peel of the pumpkin, as well as those stringy bits holding the seeds, have nutritional and phytochemical benefit to the human body.

So today I am attaching the rough draft of the pumpkin entry, complete with the opening for the Historically Modern Materia Medica, and the Bibliography attached in full, because some of the footnoted numbers go all the way back to early pages of that document.

Aai Shri Khodiyar Mata is venerated as the Sahayak Devi, the guiding goddess of the Gohil Rajputs with countless folktales and oral traditions passed down through generations.

The roots of this sacred connection trace back to the 13th century, when Maharaja Ranji Gohil assumed rule over the village of Vana. At that time, Shri Khodiyar Mata was already revered as a Lokdevi—a goddess of the people. The deep devotion of the Gohil rulers toward Mataji laid the foundation for what would become a lasting spiritual and cultural heritage.

One such devoted ruler was Maharaja Wakhatsinhji, who established a humble shrine for Shri Khodiyar Mata in Rajpara. Though modest in form, the shrine attracted faithful pilgrims and remained a place of reverence for many years.

It was Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji, deeply committed to Mataji, who envisioned a grander sanctuary. He transformed the simple shrine into the magnificent temple we see today. His efforts extended beyond the temple walls—he commissioned the construction of a proper road and drinking water facilities to ensure pilgrims had safe and dignified access. He also facilitated the building of a dedicated Khodiyar Mandir railway station.

Demonstrating both foresight and compassion, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji established a hospital along the path from the station to the temple and constructed alake to provide water for the wildlife of the Bhal region. Advanced water-pumping systems were installed, many of which continue to function even today.

To ensure the temple’s continued growth and spiritual service, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji founded the Shri Khodiyar Mandir Trust in 1953. The temple’s administration operates through its main office at Nilambag Palace and an onsite branch at the temple, supported by numerous volunteers.

With Maharaja’s values of devotion, service, and community upliftment, the Trust has remained steadfast in its mission, preserving tradition while continually enhancing the temple’s facilities for the benefit of future generations

Every time I scroll through Facebook, I see people clutching their pearls over Donald Trump.

You were silent when Joe Biden turned the border into a welcome mat for millions of illegals. Children trafficked, women assaulted, drugs pouring in, gangs emboldened… and you stayed quiet.

You were silent when Afghanistan collapsed into chaos, when 13 American heroes came home in coffins, when billions in weapons were handed to terrorists. Not a word.

You were silent when the DOJ and FBI turned into political hit squads, raiding conservatives at dawn while Hunter Biden skated free with his bag of crack and Chinese cash.

You were silent when inflation wiped out middle-class savings, when gas hit $6, when groceries doubled, and families fell behind on mortgages.

You were silent when parents were branded as “domestic terrorists” just for fighting to protect their kids from indoctrination. When schools hid gender transitions from moms and dads. When men invaded women’s sports and locker rooms.

You were silent when Big Tech and Big Government colluded to bury the Hunter laptop and censor the truth. When Fauci lied about masks, mandates, origins, and emails — and got filthy rich off it.

We remember everything. Every lie. Every betrayal. Every attack on our freedoms, our families, and our faith.

And if you think we’re going to back down now — if you think your fake outrage over Trump is going to shame us into silence, you’ve got another thing coming.

For four years, you ran this country into the ground while hiding behind media lies and government cover-ups.

Now it’s our turn. And this time, we won’t be quiet.
