Curly Dock Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, I made chocolate chip cookies using curly dock seed flour! Of course there was more to it than that, when you learn to cook with wild provisions, there's always more to it.

This is a great recipe to have if don't or can't have eggs in the house, don't or can't have milk in the house, and you still want a cookie! If you can't have gluten either due to glyphosate sensitivities (such as chron's or colitis), you can try the alternative flour the original author recommends in addition to the curly dock. The author also suggests that if you want to reduce the fat (something no longer recommended due to the body's use of dietary fat to create the various hormones your body uses, nerve health, etc) you can replace a quarter cup of fat with apple sauce and reduce some of the water as well. I have made applesauce cake and cake muffins in the past, so I know this can work with regular flour, I haven't tried it with wild flour yet.

Dockworkers' Union to Suspend Strike

The union representing 45,000 striking U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf coast ports has reached a deal to suspend their strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract, a person briefed on the matter says.

The union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, is to resume working immediately at least until January said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement has yet to be signed.

The agreement will allow the union and the U.S Maritime Alliance, which represents the shippers and ports, time to negotiate a new six-year contract. The person also said both sides reached agreement on wage increases, but details weren’t available.

The union went on strike early Tuesday after its contract expired in a dispute over pay and the automation of tasks at the ports from Maine to Texas. The strike came at the peak of the holiday shopping season at 36 ports that handle about half the cargo from ships coming into and out of the United States.

J.P. Morgan estimated that a strike that shuts down East and Gulf coast ports could cost the economy $3.8 billion to $4.5 billion per day, with some of that recovered over time after normal operations resume. And I think we all know where those billions of dollars will come from. Our pockets. It’s almost certain that prices will go up.

Over 3,000 US Marines and Navy sailors arrived in the Middle East on Sunday as part of a previously announced deployment aimed at Iran as tensions are rising in the region. The troops are part of an Amphibious Readiness Group/Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) and arrived onboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan and dock landing ship USS Carter Hall. The vessels entered the Red Sea on Sunday after transiting through the Suez Canal.
