• So I got blocked by someone over at Truth Social who was pushing Amazon products in health groups. First, why anyone still supports a company that refuses to crack down on both plagiarism and digital art theft, amazes me. As an author with friends in the artistic space affected by this behaviour, I left and took my books elsewhere. Second, encouraging people to buy what they can often get for free in their backyard or in wild spaces, also doesn't make sense, because free sources make health and wellness more affordable. It's called foraging.

    A recent push for a herbal supplement was for spurilina. The big claim to fame here is the chlorophyll. Dr Mercola, in a 2017 article shared a substitute that only requires gloves and maybe snips to get - stinging nettle:

    "Nettles Compared to 'Superfood' Spirulina
    Although spirulina technically does grow in 'the States,' it's only one — Hawaii, as well as other exotic areas of the world, so it's understandable that many think of it as not exactly around the corner. But first of all, what is it? If you've heard of blue-green algae, you're halfway there.

    Spirulina's deep blue-green color reveals its active ingredient — chlorophyll — clearly. Health . com explains it as one of the oldest life forms on Earth and possibly consumed in Aztec and African diets centuries ago.

    Today it's touted for its ability to strengthen the immune system, reduce fatigue and combat allergies. Nettles are another plant with chlorophyll that even rivals the amount found in spirulina, but they're often found in ditch banks, forests and riverbanks.

It's been used in birth rooms and battlefields to stop bleeding, both internally and externally, and is considered to purify blood, as well. As a tea:

    "It has been found to help cure mucus congestion, skin irritations, water retention and diarrhea … stimulate the digestive glands of the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Applied externally, nettle tea … relieves rheumatism in both people and animals, makes a first-class gargle for
    mouth and throat infections, helps to clear up acne and eczema and promotes the healing of burns."

    My daughter and I began foraging over 10yrs ago, and we will either take the top 8 inches or so, or if the plant insists, the whole thing. We learned how to use gloved/sleeved hands to snap off what we want. The seeds are useful in cooking and tea as a fennel replacement. So we dry both mature and young leaves at all stages of growth.

  • This article has had it's second update in a single month! This time around a variant of vit B1, that most people think of as a lab creation and not a naturally-occurring compound. Today's edit isn't too far down the page this time, following on a gut health quote from Dr. Mercola. Bioavailability is a big deal to me, because without it, the idea of food as medicine is moot! If your gut can't process it, your body won't benefit from it.

  • While my focus as your Biblical Natural Health Coach is on wholefood as medicine, there are people out there who, for various reasons whether it's difficulty with mobility, issues in the kitchen, etc, can't make use of food to deal with their daily needs. For them, supplements are important.

    Essential nutrients and natural remedies should not be treated as dangerous chemical drugs. Shawn Buckley of the NHPPA is pushing for fellow Canadians to get on the Federal Government's back over what they've done in recent years around natural health products. He says:

    "Natural health products are natural remedies and essential nutrients people need to be maintain their health.

    Before 2004 they were not classified as drugs. It is only with the ill-advised Natural Health Product Regulations that for the first time it became illegal for Canadian companies to sell vital nutrients without Health Canada permission.

    NHPs should go back to being foods like they were before 2004, and like the same products are in the U.S.

  • It appears I am not the only one that doesn't think very highly of trending dietary fads. The peer pressure seems to be among those choosing gluten-free as the wise, gut-healthy option, making others around them feel less-than if they don't make similar choices.

    But the other half of the gluten-free push, has been the discovery that farmers spray their crops with glyphosate. This has caused many to avoid gluten like the plague, because they mistakenly blame the gluten instead of the glyphosate.

    Mercola released an article today that is aimed squarely at parents, but anyone of any age and stage can make use of this information. His article is talking about the health risks that parents inflict on their children when they choose gluten-free without a firm diagnosis. Mercola gives suggestions for how to eat that strengthen the gut, allay fears, and perhaps even allow the gut to handle wheat gluten in time.

    What passes as healthfood these days, often is either ultra-processed in some fashion, or loaded in heavy metals while skimping or even missing basic necessary nutrients (or as my late mom would say, getting them from the wrong sources, ie: folic acid instead of folate)

    So consider this one very long introduction to an article I've already saved to my gut-health folder.

I recommend putting together your favourite beverages, maybe one per article, your favourite snacks, a comfey chair, and perhaps put on a fireplace movie if you don't have an actual fireplace.   • in answer to yesterday's article, I went looking for something to make for myself. Two questions came to mind: Could one make chickpea hummus with carrots, and can one blend cheese into hummus?

    Various people do include carrots in their hummus. I then found a recipe for a cottage cheese hummus, and figured I could swap in my cheese sauce instead. While digging these up, I found another way to prepare dry chickpeas that doesn't involve soaking all night.

    I enjoyed my first meal with the dip, and then went to my database. As noted in yesterday's article, vitamin's A,C, and E have been noted to help with anti-inflammatory action in the lungs. Both A and E are fat soluble, and that is provided in my dip with the cheese sauce made from heavy cream.

    Parsley is in the list of foods containing beneficial compounds for lung health and healing, boasting 9 of the 29 compounds that bring down inflammation and help restore function, Onions contain both cysteine and quercetin, both found by researchers to be beneficial in the quest for better lung health.

  • We were recently approached at the Rutland Flea Market, with whether or not we had any teas that would be recommended for someone suffering COPD. The day was slow, so Ashley began looking up a few studies online, sent me a couple links, and when we got home, I began my own research.

  • The Cleveland Clinic has come out with a study of their employees, 54,000 of them, to study the effectiveness of the flu shot. They discovered that those who got the shot were almost 27% more likely to get the flu than those who were unvaxxed.

    In trying to briefly see what other studies existed, a family member went to google and found their AI giving mainstream regurgitation instead of actual information on the studies.
