• So anyone who knows me for any length of time, eventually hears me grouse about the incredible food waste I see occurring every October. This is an incredible pet peave of mine that I’ve had for many years, and it gets my goat every single fall season! The pumpkin everyone loves to carve up, smash and either throw to the chickens or toss in the garbage, is food for us humans as well, in a great many ways.

However, after today’s efforts pulling together research papers for the modern day entry on the pumpkin, I’ve now been educated that even the flower and peel of the pumpkin, as well as those stringy bits holding the seeds, have nutritional and phytochemical benefit to the human body.

So today I am attaching the rough draft of the pumpkin entry, complete with the opening for the Historically Modern Materia Medica, and the Bibliography attached in full, because some of the footnoted numbers go all the way back to early pages of that document.

  • Coming up for air as I continue efforts on my textbook before the foraging season kicks into high gear! I realized I haven't posted any new blog articles for literally an entire month! Oops???

This coming weekend, we are at Vernon Shoparama at the Vernon Rec Centre. We will be in the rec centre's gym. In April, we will be back at the rec centre for the Vernon Wellness Fair, and then at Maplefest downtown Kelowna the last saturday of the month.

May's craft fair schedule has run off the rails, BUT. . . we end the month at our very first ever Ren Fair!!! As I type, Ashley is working on a leather corsette belt for me! Comparing apothecary outfits to 1850's bar tenders with the age if piracy, and in all three image searches, it was apparent that as an English rider, Ashley's outfit was prebuilt just riding her horse! She had made herself a waspy corsette a few years ago, and that completes her look. The Penticton Ren Fair is happening May 30th!

Do keep tabs on our 2026 Where We'll Be card, and/or to the website calendar, clickable from the main menu bar across the top of my website.

We've also discovered the wonders of turning pine bark into a spice similar to cinnamon, with a flavour profile similar to cinnamon as well. It lends the same flavour style to things like apple fritters, apple crumble, pumpkin spice blend, etc.

We are changing up the tea packaging by the way! This is more cost effective for us, takes the same length of time to put together as the current packaging, but takes up less space, and is easier to use. Just keep the string for your own storage as you will need it to close the package. Wild Apple Spice is the first tea to use this packaging.

With plants coming to life around the valley, now is the time to be planning for foraging workshops.

It's going to be a knock-em-out year this year (on many levels)! Here's hoping if you live in the Okanagan, to see you around at various fairs we'll be at!

  • CANADIAN BIRTH RATE VS. MASS IMMIGRATION

...from friendly and/or hostile cultures towards the west,
is not only an important but also an urgent conversation we need to have!

    Can we survive without it?

With current 1.25 birth rate per woman in Canada, and the minimum birth rate sociology experts recommended to prevent a society from going instinct is 2.1 per biological and socially Canadian women in Canada.

Not the Canadian only by paper yet their hearts belong to a more sinister demographic take over agenda for a hostile religion or non-Canadian culture, but actual Canadian women in hearts and minds, not only by birth but a woman espousing authentic Canadian social, cultural and family values, married to an authentic Canadian man in heart and mind!

Is migration a necessary evil we have to embrace?

There is also double standards in Canada about growing your family. Islamic polygamists, Muslims having 3 ,4, 5 or more wives are not on the radar of the authorities, they have effectively turned a blind eye that this is actually happening in Canada, despite the blatant declaration of the Islamist that one of their methods to take over western societies is by demographic shifts.

Muslims are indeed showing the fastest growth by birth rate in Canada and the west. Christian polygamists like the fundamentalist latter day saints and others are raided and vilified constantly by the authorities! Why the double standards?

Muslim women in Canada have an average fertility rate of 2.4 children per woman. This is notably higher than the general Canadian population, which averaged approximately 1.4 to 1.6 children per woman in recent periods.

Child-bearing Age: A larger proportion of the Muslim population is entering or is currently in child-bearing years. Roughly 26.3% of Muslims are under the age of 15, compared to only 16.5% of the total Canadian population.

Islam allows adult Muslim men to take 9 year old girls as their wives and get them pregnant at a young age!

    Population Projections
Current Proportion: As of early 2026, Muslims represent approximately 5% to 5.2% of Canada's total population.

Future Growth: Projections estimate the Muslim population will reach 2.7 million by 2030 (about 6.6% of the population) and could rise to 5.9 million (12.6%) by 2050.

Western women had been socially engineered since the mid 60's to embrace careers and shun starting families early.

This socially engineered mindset had been installed to become an individualist value and belief system by design to undermine population growth in Western societies!

    Economists are also weighing in.

Unless an economy is on a constant growth trajectory, it is on a constant decline. Economies are like bi-directional rivers/creeks it's going only one way or the other it cannot stand still.

Economic growth is also closely tied to population growth. When the population growth rate of a society is on a constant decline, it's economy is also on a constant recession. That translate directly to inflation and how we are able to afford food and necessities and all the retail prices in groceries, at the pumps and shopping malls!

If we have to embrace migration to prevent extinction of our society and maintain the growth of our economy, should we be bringing in migration from hostile cultures or migrants compatible with Western Values?

What difference does it make if we selectively vs indiscriminately import migration from other Christian societies, Hinduist societies, Islamic societies, caste discrimination societies, honour killings societies, communist societies, sharia law societies, public defecating societies, narco-economic societies? Does it make a difference, should we discriminate or just bring the entire world in, the good the bad and the ugly?

Let's have an honest , adult and meaningful conversation about this!

  • History of shri Khodiyar Mandir Trust
Aai Shri Khodiyar Mata is venerated as the Sahayak Devi, the guiding goddess of the Gohil Rajputs with countless folktales and oral traditions passed down through generations.
    https://khodiyarmandirtrust.com/history
The roots of this sacred connection trace back to the 13th century, when Maharaja Ranji Gohil assumed rule over the village of Vana. At that time, Shri Khodiyar Mata was already revered as a Lokdevi—a goddess of the people. The deep devotion of the Gohil rulers toward Mataji laid the foundation for what would become a lasting spiritual and cultural heritage.

One such devoted ruler was Maharaja Wakhatsinhji, who established a humble shrine for Shri Khodiyar Mata in Rajpara. Though modest in form, the shrine attracted faithful pilgrims and remained a place of reverence for many years.

It was Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji, deeply committed to Mataji, who envisioned a grander sanctuary. He transformed the simple shrine into the magnificent temple we see today. His efforts extended beyond the temple walls—he commissioned the construction of a proper road and drinking water facilities to ensure pilgrims had safe and dignified access. He also facilitated the building of a dedicated Khodiyar Mandir railway station.

Demonstrating both foresight and compassion, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji established a hospital along the path from the station to the temple and constructed alake to provide water for the wildlife of the Bhal region. Advanced water-pumping systems were installed, many of which continue to function even today.

To ensure the temple’s continued growth and spiritual service, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji founded the Shri Khodiyar Mandir Trust in 1953. The temple’s administration operates through its main office at Nilambag Palace and an onsite branch at the temple, supported by numerous volunteers.

With Maharaja’s values of devotion, service, and community upliftment, the Trust has remained steadfast in its mission, preserving tradition while continually enhancing the temple’s facilities for the benefit of future generations

  • Well worth the read here if you want to know how screwed up the minds of greenies are:

Climate Physicist, Anastassia Makarieva, co-originator of the Biotic Pump Model: Forests, Water, and Climate: Time for Re-Conceptualization

Forests capture a certain part of solar energy at the surface in the form of what is called latent heat. This latent heat is then released during condensation higher in the troposphere from where it later goes unimpeded to space.

Thus by transpiration forests smooth the temperature lapse rate and thus cause cooling. If we reduce transpiration, then more heat remains at the surface, the temperature lapse rate becomes steeper, and we have warming.

Both effects (of transpiration and clouds) will be global and both effects will involve how forests handle water.

Now let me show that both effects are very real and significant.

First, if we are looking at clouds, we have evidence that the record heat in 2023 could have been facilitated by a biospheric breakdown, because we know that in this year the Amazon suffered an unprecedented drought and there were unprecedented forest fires in Canada. In both cases, transpiration and cloud formation were drastically reduced.

We can see that cloud cover was reduced over the Amazon and the adjacent oceanic regions. There is an additional hotspot of cloud reduction over Canada.

This is backed up by our knowledge of how efficient forests are in generating low level clouds that cool the earth. We can see that the the more productive forests are, the more efficient they are in generating clouds. While when we change them for non-forest systems the generation of cloud cover is drastically reduced.

If we saw this 2023 anomaly after a drought in the Amazon forest that was mercilessly plundered, especially during the Bolsonaro times with increasing logging and burning, then now if we have this large-scale deforestation project in Indonesia (MIFEE), we are explicitly asking for more acute global warming.

Ironically, these terrible developments are facilitated by the carbon-focused narrative. Much of the argumentation behind this huge deforestation project in Indonesia is that they will have green fuel, like a renewable fuel, but instead this will actually destabilize our planet even further.
