  • One of my quirks, is that I love spiders, regularly make friends with yellow jackets, will toss stink bugs outside if I find them in the house (like just two days ago, in December, here in the Okanagan!!!) and only hang fly tape when too many house flies move in or the fruit flies come out. One year when my son was just a baby and my daughter was not yet born, the bedroom window did not have a screen. An orb weaver spider created a web across that window, and all summer long, not a single bug got into that room! The spider got big and fat and I was sad to see her go when the cold weather hit.

My daughter bought me some "Christmas spiders" as we call them, during halloween season one year. As much as I hate that holiday, commercially-speaking it's the only time of year when we find decent spider decorations. Most of the time we don't buy them, but a couple years ago, Ashley bought me a set of spiders to put up at Christmastime. Their colours were too cheery for halloween, but that's when they were set out for purchase. This year, I had a little fun with one, making it look like she was trying to help me decorate and got tangled in the garland.

Every time I see a spider, I am reminded of the verse in Proverbs where Solomon observes them even living in the palace. I hope this Christmas spider's attempt at decorating brings you a smile as it does me.

    Merry Christmas!

  • You call yourselves Christians, or Jews, or claim to follow some other religion, but the truth is, what you call your religion is empty window-dressing. What you truly worship, the god you really bow to, what you really believe in, is the state. ‘Thou shalt not steal.’ ‘Thou shalt not murder.’ Unless you can do it by way of government. Then it’s just fine, isn’t it?

Germany: Syrian won't be deported despite smashing windows of 245 cars, beating an elderly woman, and possessing illegal weapons
A Syrian migrant has an incredible arrest record, including smashing the windows of 245 cars, beating and injuring an 84-year-old woman, and possessing illegal weapons, but the courts have decided to let him stay in the country. The man, Firas A., is a chronic repeat offender in theory, but in practice, this designation has also […]

  • Anti-NATO and pro-Palestinian riots broke out in Montreal this week, and on Friday night, things got violent. Police report that the protesters were smashing windows out of buildings, setting cars on fire, setting off smoke bombs, and throwing metal barriers at cops who tried to intervene. They marched through the streets with Palestinian flags and burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The rioters chose Montreal because the city is currently hosting delegates for the annual NATO parliamentary assembly. You might be thinking that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was on top of things immediately, working with local officials to calm the situation. Just kidding -- I know our readers are smarter than that. Trudeau was actually about as far away mentally as one can get; he was dancing the night away at a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto.

  • When a Tesla crashed on Lakeshore Blvd. in Toronto last month, the first people on scene knew there were occupants inside but couldn’t immediately get them out. “You couldn’t open the car,” said Rick Harper, a Canada Post employee who saw flames shooting from the vehicle and stopped to help. With the help of other bystanders, they were able to smash one of the car’s windows and pull a woman to safety. Four others, including the driver, died inside the vehicle.
