The Supreme Court has officially paused the killing of the ostriches at Universal Ostrich Farms. 🙏 Here’s what it means in simple terms: • The CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) had ordered all the birds to be destroyed. • Universal Ostrich Farms asked the Supreme Court to step in. • The Court has agreed to temporarily stop the killings until the case can be fully heard. • CFIA (the respondent) must file their response to the farm’s request for leave to appeal by October 3, 2025. • Universal Ostrich Farms (the applicant) then has 2 days after that to file any reply. ❗️The CFIA has custody of the ostriches. (I do not have the details on this) • The Court issued an “interim-interim stay”. This is basically a temporary pause until the Court decides whether to grant a longer stay and whether to allow the appeal to go forward. What this means: 1.
